New Simi YMCA Summer Swim Sessions Begin August 1 & 15
Parents still have an opportunity sign up their kids for swim lessons through Simi Valley Family YMCA.

Parents still have an opportunity sign up their kids for swim lessons through Simi Valley Family YMCA. Two sessions are available: August 1 through August 11 and August 15 through August 25. Classes take place at the Simi Y’s heated indoor swimming pool (3200 Cochran St., Simi Valley).
Parents who are unsure of their child’s swim level can bring their child to the YMCA for evaluation. Classes are divided by age: Parent and tot (swim diaper required), ages three to five, and ages six and up. Group lessons take place in the mornings and afternoons (afternoons only for August 15 through 25 session). Thirty-minute lessons are held Monday through Thursday (a total of eight lessons) with a maximum of five children per class. Private and special needs lessons are also available.
YMCAs have been teaching children how to swim since the Y introduced group swimming lessons in 1909. “YMCAs and swim lessons go hand in hand,” says John Edwards, Simi Y’s aquatics director. “Our goal is to teach swimming and pool safety fundamentals while giving kids skills so they are confident in the water. There is also time for fun water games so kids can learn by playing. ”
