Weekend Fun: Orchid Show, Visitor Center Opening, Wine Festival and More

Friday

Orchid Show in Thousand Oaks: The Conejo Orchid Society is having its annual orchid show and sale at the Thousand Oaks Public Library at 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks, from June 8 to 10. This free event will be an opportunity for the community to learn about orchids and the Conejo Orchid Society.

Visitor Center Open House in Calabasas: The new Anthony C. Beilenson Interagency Visitor Center is having an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nestled in the heart of the mountains at King Gillette Ranch, 26800 Mulholland Highway, Calabasas, this visitor center is the first of its kind in the Santa Monica Mountains with interactive displays, new exhibits, sustainable features and a native plant garden.

Annual Pioneer Jamboree in Newbury Park: The Stagecoach Inn Museum will hold its Annual Pioneer Jamboree from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 51 S. Ventu Park Road, Newbury Park. This celebration of the way we lived, will include music, storytelling, butter churning, crafts, games, gold panning, lemon squeezing, fossil digging, antique toy making and more. The jamboree will feature 17 hands-on activities to take visitors back to the early days of the Stagecoach Inn, opening in July 1876.

There will be food and beverages for sale, and free parking in Stagecoach Park.  Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for children 4 to 17 years old and free for children under 3. For further information, call 805.498.9441.

Sunday

Duathlon Series in Camarillo: The Camarillo Duathlon Series 2012 will be at Freedom Park in Camarillo near the airport. The run is on the airport property, all flat out and back. The bike is along the famous strawberry fields of Camarillo. Most roads have a large bike path to ride in. Both courses are pancake flat.

All athletes will receive a finisher medal, event t-shirt, goodie bag and post race munchies. To learn more and to register, visit www.camarilloduathlon.com.

Wine Festival in Ojai: The 26th annual Ojai Wine Festival will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on the shores of Lake Casitas. Rotary Club of Ojai West, has made several enhancements to the festival. Last year's exciting addition was the VIP Lounge. This year's VIP Lounge is perfect for wine and beer connoisseurs and foodies alike. 

The festival is expecting over 60 wineries and 20 different kinds of beer. There is even a free hourly shuttle from various locations in the Ojai area sponsored by Roadrunner Shuttle and Limousine Service. For more information, please visit www.OjaiWineFestival.com.
