Driver Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries on Montague Expressway

The crash blocked 3 lanes and snarled morning traffic for two hours as investigators pieced together what happened.

A driver suffered major injuries in a three-car collision on Montague Expressway in Santa Clara early this morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Shortly before 5:30 a.m., a woman was driving west on Montague Expressway at De La Cruz Boulevard when another vehicle changed lanes and struck her, CHP Officer Ross Lee said. The woman's vehicle spun out and ended up on eastbound lanes, where she was hit by a BMW, Lee said.

The woman suffered injuries that were considered life-threatening and was transported to a hospital, he said.
