Google Brings Fiber Optic Internet to Stanford

After an exhaustive application processes, the Mountain View company chooses site near home for beta-test.

Mountain View residents have for five years. Now students, staff and homes on the Stanford campus can be the first to test Google Fiber.

Google Fiber, the company's venture into "experimental, ultra high-speed broadband networks," will eventually be installed in Kansas City. However, Stanford's proximity to Google makes it a good place to test it first, according to Jim Sweeney, president of the Stanford Campus Residential Leaseholders Board of Directors.
