Grab and Go Kids Planner: MVHS Football, the 40th Annual Art and Wine Festival and More

Here are some highlights of kid-friendly events in and around Mountain View this weekend.

Where/When: Hillsdale High, 3115 Del Monte, San Mateo, CA. Saturday, 1 p.m. 

Why Go: The football team begins the 2011 season this Saturday at in San Mateo. The afternoon contest is the first game under new head coach Toure Carter. Mountain View finished the 2010 season with a 8-3 record overall and 5-1 mark in league play. The Spartans fell 40-14 to Wilcox High in round one of the Central Coast Section playoffs last season.

Where/When: , 380 Magdalena Ave., Los Altos, CA. Saturday and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Why Go: You won't find a better option to sample yummy Greek and Mediterranean cuisine this weekend at the 30th annual Mediterranean Food Festival. Music, arts and crafts for the kids, a raffle and all the hummus, kabobs and all grilled veggies you can dream will be on site at the Antichian Orthodox Church of The Redeemer in Los Altos.

Where/When: Castro St. & W Evelyn Ave., Mountain View, CA. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go: More than 600 artists and craftmakers will be on hand, as well as live music, exhibits, a kid's park, carnival rides, and more. Event takes place on Castro Street between El Camino Real and Evelyn Avenue in Mountain View.

Where/When: , 97 Hillview Ave, Los Altos, CA. Thursday, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

Why Go: Five colorful gals come of age in this upbeat musical set in 1960s England. Groove, dance and sing along to one of the many 60s classics used in the show.

Where/When: , 1451 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94301. Weekly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: With "Gizmos and Gadgets,'' kids can explore simple machines and see how they make hard work easier. Lift up someone bigger than you or test your strength in this hands-on exhibit. Kids can also check out the two newest members to the zoo, a pair of baby swell sharks and leopard sharks that makeup quite a foursome in the 500-gallon tank on site.

Sense and Sensibility

Where/When: TheatreWorks, , 500 Castro Street, Mountain View. Thursday and Friday night at 8 p.m. Saturday showtimes at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Why Go: Based on the classic Jane Austen novel, the tale of two sisters and their wild journey through life, love and everything in between begins this week in Mountain View. The period-piece is a history lesson, comedy and drama all rolled into one. 

Pricing: $49 adults, $39 seniors, $29 full-time students.
