Mountain View Art & Wine Festival Marks 41 years

It soon will be time to break out the wine glasses in Mountain View and celebrate the last golden days of the summer season.

The popular Mountain View Art & Wine Festival is returning next weekend to the city’s downtown Castro Street area.

While a bevy of fine wines and a multitude of artists will be on hand to greet visitors, the festival also will offer much more including live music, specialty food vendors, home and garden exhibits, health and wellness displays, and children’s activities.

Visitors also will have a chance to see a special NASA Mars Rover Curiosity exhibit.

The annual festival started in 1971 as a fundraiser for the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce. Today, marking its 41^st year, it has grown into one of the largest festivals of its type in the country and attracts more than 600 artists and craftspeople that specialize in fine arts, handmade jewelry, clothing and more.

Rounding out the two-day event will be live music from 13 bands performing tunes for every taste including rock ‘n’ roll, Motown, Latin-reggae, country, rhythm and blues, disco, and jazz. Performances will take place on the Civic Center Plaza Music Stage, and on smaller stages throughout the festival.

The two-day festival will take place on Castro Street between El Camino Real and Evelyn Avenue. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 8-9. Admission is free. For details, visit the Art & Wine Festival website or call the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce at 650-968-8378.
