Police: Women Seek Victims To Cash Bad Checks

MOUNTAIN VIEW - Mountain View police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a female duo that allegedly ran a scam involving fraudulent checks on a number of victims.

The first instance of this scam was on Oct. 29, 2015 in Mountain View, according to police.

It began with two women approaching a man and asking if he had an account at Bank of America, police said. The women said they needed him to cash a check because they were purportedly unable to withdraw funds as new account holders.

Police said the man agreed and they went to a bank branch in the 400 block of Castro Street.

The man cashed the check and withdrew funds from his account to hand over to the women, police said. Police said the man learned two weeks later that his Bank of America account was frozen because he cashed a fraudulent check.

An identical pair of incidents involving similarly described suspects occurred on Nov. 15, according to police.

One victim cashed the bad check at a branch in the 300 block of San Antonio Road, the other was in the 20000 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino, police said.

The suspects in these incidents were said to be driving a navy, 2-door car, possibly a Fiat or a Mini Cooper. Anyone with information in these cases is asked to contact Mountain View police at (650) 903-6362.
