Uke It Up At The Mountain View Library
Hera a uke, there a uke ... And beginners are welcome ...

From Emily Weak:
Ukuleles are everywhere this summer at the Mountain View Library!
On the Fourth Monday of the month, at 6:30 pm, MVPL hosts a drop-in ukulele jam. Each evening starts with a short lesson for beginners, then things really start to cook. Participants learn some new songs as well as sing and play some old favorites. Those without ukuleles are welcome; the library has 8 ukuleles generously donated from local music shops Ukulele Source, West Valley Music, and Griffin Strings.
Also keep a look out for ukuleles at Thursday Night Live (Mountain View’s summer street fair). At the library’s booth, a rag-tag band of about 20 ukulele enthusiasts will be on hand to serenade passersby and offer two minute lessons for beginners. Upcoming dates are July 23 and August 6, from 5:30-8:30 pm.
Finally, on Saturday, August 15 at noon, the library is showing a movie matinee (with popcorn). Under the Boardwalk: A Ukulele Love Story is a documentary that chronicles the Santa Cruz Ukulele Club. It is the story of how a small house party in an out of the way town in California grows into the biggest ukulele club in the world. It is also the story of how a small instrument makes a long journey from Portugal to Hawaii to the mainland, lands in people’s hearts, and creates a uniquely Hawaiian-American musical tradition that is currently experiencing a world wide revival. Attendees are invited to bring their ukes to play along.
As always, Mountain View Library events are free to attend.
