The eight stores represent the chain's first forays into Southern California, where ALDI hopes to open about 45 stores by the end of the year.
Ribbon-cutting ceremonies and free giveaways were held at 8:45 a.m. at the new locations.
The Riverside County stores are in:
- Beaumont, 1638 E. Second St.
- La Quinta, 78601 Highway 111
- Lake Elsinore, 18294 Collier Ave.
- Moreno Valley, 12630 Day St.
- Palm Springs, 5200 E. Ramon Road
Grand opening events were also scheduled at San Bernardino County locations in:
- Fontana, 15080 Summit Ave.
- San Bernardino, 625 E. Hospitality Lane
- Yucaipa, 34000 Yucaipa Blvd
The first 100 shoppers in line received a "golden ticket" containing ALDI gift certificates. Customers also had a chance to win a year's supply of produce by entering an on-site sweepstakes.
