Car Crashes Into Old Town Temecula Gas Line, Evacuations Ordered

About 50 people were also ordered to shelter in place for about two hours on Saturday.

About 50 people were forced to take shelter and part of a commercial district was evacuated Saturday when a car crashed into a gas line in Old Town, according to a Riverside County fire news release.

Authorities responded about 12:36 p.m. to a report that a vehicle had crashed into a gas line near the intersection of Front and Fourth streets.

No injuries were reported in the crash but the impact caused a significant leak in a one-inch gas main.

About 50 people were ordered to shelter in place at 42045 3rd St, while Southern California Gas company employees worked to shut off the leak, the news release said.

The entire block of Front Street, from Third to Fourth streets, was shut down for about two hours, until 3:12 p.m.
