Gasoline Price Near Murrieta Drops For 15th Time in 16 Days

The average price is 4.5 cents less than a week ago.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Inland Empire dropped Friday for the 15th time in the last 16 days, decreasing nine-tenths of a cent to $2.83.

The average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties has dropped 8.8 cents over the past 16 days, including 1 cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 4.5 cents less than a week ago, 2.6 cents lower than one month ago and $1.345 below what it was one year ago.

The average price dropped for four consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent on July 11 and resumed dropping July 12.

"Last year, some large California refineries were suffering from a number of unexpected problems, which led to higher gas prices during the peak driving season," said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

"Refineries are running more smoothly this summer, which has helped prices remain cheaper than a year ago."
