Murrieta Home, Biz Owners Could See Drop In Insurance Rates
Murrieta Fire and Rescue's ISO PPC rating has improved, which may mean reduced insurance premiums for the city's home and business owners.

MURRIETA, CA — Home and business owners located in areas served by Murrieta Fire & Rescue may want to contact their insurance providers to see if they're eligible for discounted rates in the months to come.
Murrieta Fire & Rescue announced Friday that its Insurance Services Office Public Protection Classification rating has improved. The rating is an industry standard used to help determine business and residential insurance premiums.
Beginning September 2020, Murrieta Fire & Rescue’s ISO class rating improves from 4 to 3, putting it in the top 8 percent of all rated fire departments nationwide based on its readiness and ability to suppress fires, according to the Murrieta Fire & Rescue announcement.
ISO assigns a rating from 1 to 10, with 1 being the best and 10 the worst.
“The men and women of Murrieta Fire & Rescue are to be applauded for their professional dedication to our community and dedication to continuous quality improvement," Murrieta Fire Chief David Lantzer said. "While we celebrate improvement in our PPC, we still have much to do in order to provide the best emergency services possible to our residents.”
According to ISO Mitigation website, the ratings take into consideration many aspects of keeping a community safe, including a department's tools, equipment, fire stations, response to alarms and training. In ISO's Fire Suppression Rating Schedule, Murrieta Fire & Rescue explained there are four main criteria to a fire rating score:
· 50% comes from the quality of your local fire department including staffing levels, training and proximity of the firehouse.
· 40% comes from availability of water supply, including the prevalence of fire hydrants and how much water is available for putting out fires.
· 10% comes from the quality of the area's emergency communications systems (911).
· An extra 5.5% comes from community outreach, including fire prevention and safety courses.
