Murrieta Police Explorers Celebrate Promotion Ceremony:
As June began, Murrieta's Police Department congratulated a full class of "Explorers," teens who learn what it is like to be an officer.

MURRIETA, CA — The Murrieta Police Department celebrated its graduating class of Explorers, which they shared over social media.
"It may be graduation season, but for a select few young people here in the valley, it is promotion season," a department spokesperson shared on Facebook. "Recently, our Explorers celebrated the advancement of five of its hard-working members at Murrieta Police Department."
Lt. Cassio, Sgt. Garcia, Sgt. Sanchez, Cpl. Fernandez, and Cpl. Sikes were all promoted after participating in the rigorous program.

"The Explorer Program provides educational training programs for young adults on the purposes, mission, and objectives of law enforcement," they said. "The program provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service activities. The program's primary goals are to help young adults choose a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their communities and the nation."

The course is intended for those exploring future career opportunities in law enforcement, such as correction officers, federal agents, and military police. It combines classroom training with ride-along in police vehicles, pistol shooting, community policing, and more.
- Be able to partake in physical activity
- Be at least a high school student in Murrieta
- A resident of the City of Murrieta
- Have access to the Internet for our Explorer message board, whether on your smartphone or home computer.
- Maintain a +2.0 GPA and have no failing grades
- Be able to commit to meetings every Wednesday from 5 -8:30 p.m.
- Be able to commit to some weekends for special events as requested
- Minimal disciplinary issues at school, home, and negative contacts with law enforcement.
- There are no costs to join except being able to purchase a pair of black uniform boots (various local stores sell them)
"The Murrieta Police Department's Explorer Program is open to young men and women ages 14 and who have completed the 8th grade," they said.
The program must be begun before age 21 and is intended for those who are interested in learning more about careers in law enforcement.
