Murrieta's Top January Students Honored

Murrieta Chamber of Commerce High School Student of the Month Program was held, where the students were recognized.

From Murrieta Valley Unified School District: On January 31, 2018, the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce High School Student of the Month Program was held and the students shown in the attached photo were recognized.

Murrieta Valley High School Senior Victoria Rios is a quiet leader who is actively involved in school and the community. She is a straight A student in the IB diploma program and during her four years of high school she has taken seven AP classes including six years of math and science. Victoria has played an integral role in the band for four years. This year she is a section leader and secretary of the band organization. Outside of school, Victoria is active in Youth in Government and she volunteers at Loma Linda Hospital in the emergency room. Victoria feels called to follow her mother and grandfather into the medical field and she plans to become a neurosurgeon. She is interested in working in Africa with Doctors without Borders. Victoria has applied to attend UC Berkeley, Johns Hopkins University and USC.

Calvary Christian High School Senior Lianghao GE came to the United States four years ago from China. Lianghao was still learning English and he worked hard to master the language and culture. Lianghao has a 4.17 GPA and he has excelled in his AP classes. Lianghao not only excels academically, he is humble, self-disciplined, goal-oriented and motivated. He has shown himself to be kind and compassionate, helping other students in his classes. Lianghao has enjoyed being on the basketball team especially the unity and camaraderie of the team. After graduation, Lianghao plans to go to college and study business. Before he leaves college, he wants to start his own business. Lianghao is respectful, honorable and a great all-around student.

Murrieta Canyon Academy Senior Jacob Krumbein has made an amazing turnaround since starting at Murrieta Canyon Academy in his junior year. This year, for the first time, he has been happy to go to school and he has the highest GPA he has ever had. Jacob has connected with staff and students at Murrieta Canyon and is in the hiking club. Jacob has a great work ethic. Currently he works at Smart and Final in addition to finishing his senior year. With tenacity and resilience, Jacob has overcome a difficult past but he says the tough times made him who he is today. Jacob said it took a lot of focus and a change of mindset to get where he is today. Jacob plans to go to vocational school to become a master electrician and he hopes to one day start his own company.

Springs Charter School Senior Jenna Sundbeck has been in the Keys Independent college study program since the spring of her junior year. With both of her parents facing serious medical issues, Jenna started taking on more responsibility. To avoid falling behind, she took her textbooks to the hospital with her to study while she visited her parents in the hospital. At home, Jenna helped care for her 90 year-old grandfather. She plans to pursue a career in computer science and in the future she wants to develop a universal software program that can be used by hospitals and other medical providers to help provide improved access to patients’ medical records. Jenna has a 4.0 GPA and a passion for learning. She says that failure and adversity can be a foundation for your future if you use it as a springboard rather than a roadblock. Jenna plans to attend community college before transferring to one of the University of California campuses.

Vista Murrieta High School Senior Lindsey Ruth is a leader who is highly involved. She maintains a 4.24 GPA while taking multiple Advanced Placement & dual enrollment courses. Lindsey is a four year member of Student Senate and she serves on the Principal’s Advisory Group. She is in the Drama Club, Women’s History Club and Glam Gals Club. Lindsey has also been involved in Scholar Bowl, blood and food drives, and serves as Vice President of publicity for the BBC spirit club, doing daily morning announcements on the school’s news cast. Lindsey has been on the crew of several school plays where she is happy serving behind the scenes. Lindsey has a passion for serving and leading others and she inspires others to make a difference with her smile, enthusiastic encouragement and example of service. After high school Lindsey hopes to go to University of Washington or Seattle to major in business and retail management.

Murrieta Mesa High School Senior Jeff Miller is an outstanding scholar athlete who maintains a 4.0 GPA. Jeff has played football all four years and this year is was the quarterback and captain of the team. Jeff was named all CIF, All American and MVP while playing in the USA All Stars game in Texas. Jeff also played basketball for three years. Jeff is actively involved in coaching youth teams and refereeing youth sports. Jeff has served in the school’s leadership program for four years and he is President of the school’s American Sign Language Club. While serving as a teacher’s aide in a class for severely handicapped students, Jeff discovered he has a passion for working with kids with special needs. Jeff has committed to play football for Towson University in Maryland where he will major in special education and continue studying ASL. Jeff wants to be a teacher and a high school football coach.
