New Online Tool Shows Measure T Spending In Murrieta
With charts and graphs, the website shows residents where and how the sales-tax funds will be spent.
MURRIETA, CA — The City of Murrieta has launched on its website a new online tool, "OpenGov," that allows users to view Measure T spending with charts and graphs that break down financial data by funding source and types of expenditures.
"When voters passed our local one cent sales tax (Measure T) last November, they invested in the future of our community," City Manager Kim Summers said. "Now we can take a breath and address the backlog that emerged after experiencing some of the fastest population growth in the state. We're doing this arm and arm with our residents and with absolute transparency."
With an anticipated annual revenue of $16 million, Measure T funds are being used by the city in making deferred investments in public safety, streets and roads, parks, community engagement and other areas identified as priorities by City Council and residents, officials said. The OpenGov tool will be updated quarterly and provides a six-year-overview, and users can create easy-to-read charts and graphs that can be downloaded and shared.

City officials plan to expand such opportunities for resident engagement, by building out its data portal to include publicly available statistics from the police, fire and other city departments.
"These numbers tell a story about our community," Summers said." They can show how we're changing, how we are addressing local needs, how we're listening to residents. They help us connect."
