Suspicious Package Prompts Lockdown at Menifee School

School on lockdown for nearly three hours on Wednesday.

An unmarked package led to a bomb scare at a Menifee elementary school today.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the box was dropped at the main office of Ridgemoor Elementary School, 25455 Ridgemoor Road, around 11 a.m.

The staff was immediately suspicious because the deliveryman, who abruptly left, was not wearing a uniform, and the package’s contents were not disclosed, said sheriff’s Sgt. Sergio Rodriguez.

He said deputies were summoned, and the campus was locked down as a precaution, with notifications sent to students’ parents, who were given the option of retrieving the youngsters and taking them home for the day.

According to Rodriguez, the sheriff’s Hazardous Devices Team isolated the package and determined that it was not a threat. The school grounds were reopened at 1:50 p.m.
