Napa County Lightning Complex Fires Latest: More Evacuations

Officials say 1,900 homes and other structures are threatened by the fires that have charred more than 32,000 acres.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — More mandatory evacuation orders were issued Tuesday evening in relation to the LNU Lightning Complex fires that have burned more than 32,000 acres in Napa and Sonoma counties. Some 1,900 homes and other structures are threatened in the blazes caused by lightning, according to Cal Fire.

Five major wildfires were burning as of Tuesday night in Napa County; one structure and two outbuildings have been destroyed in what are now called the LNU Lightning Complex fires.

The Hennessey Fire east of St. Helena near Lake Hennessey was 10,000 acres and 0-percent contained Tuesday night. According to fire officials, 205 structures are threatened by the blaze that broke out early Monday morning.

The Gamble Fire near Berryessa Knoxville Road, west of Brooks, was 10,000 acres and 0-percent contained Tuesday night.

The third fire is called the 15-10 incident; it broke out near Putah Creek Bridge/Berryessa Knoxville Road and was 8,000 acres Tuesday night and 0-percent contained.

Also burning in Napa County as of Tuesday were the 1,000-acre Spanish Fire near Spanish Flat, and the 2,500-acre Markley Fire near the Monticello dam.

In Sonoma County, the 13-4 Fire west of Healdsburg was 500 acres Tuesday night, while the 11-6 Fire north of Jenner was 25 acres. Both Sonoma County blazes are part of the LNU Lightning Complex fires.

In Napa County, mandatory evacuation orders remained in effect Tuesday for:

  • Hennessey Ridge Road
  • Sage Canyon Road from Chiles-Pope Valley Road to Lower Chiles Valley Road
  • State Highway 128 from Lower Chiles Valley Road to Monticello Road
  • State Highway 128 from Wragg Canyon East to the county line (Lake Berryessa Dam)
  • Snell Valley Road and Butts Canyon Road, including Berryessa Estates and Spanish Valley. An evacuation advisory was simultaneously issued for Butts Canyon Road from the Lake County line to James Creek Road in Napa, in addition to Markley Cove Resort to Pleasants Valley Road
  • Moskowite Corner to Wooden Valley Road, including the community of Circle Oaks
  • Atlas Peak from the Bubbling Wells Pet Cemetery at 2462 Atlas Peak Road east to the dead end
  • Loma Vista Road headed east to the dead end of Soda Canyon Road
  • Wragg Canyon Road from state Highway 128 to the end of the road, including Pleasure Cove Resort.
  • Chiles Pope Valley Road from Lower Chiles Valley Road to Pope Canyon Road.
  • All of Steele Canyon Road from state Highway 128 and the Berryessa Highlands Subdivision.
  • All areas on Berryessa Knoxville Road from Eastside Road to state Highway 128 at the intersection of Berryessa Knoxville Road/ state Highway 128 (Turtle Rock Bar). According to the Napa County Office of Emergency Services, this includes:
    • Everything west of Lake Berryessa’s water’s edge
    • Pope Canyon Road from Pope Valley Road to Berryessa Knoxville Road
    • Including Hardin Road and the Sufi Center
    • The intersection on Butts Canyon Road and Snell Valley Road to all of Berryessa Estates Subdivision.

Evacuation advisories remained in place for:

  • State Highway 128 at Silverado Trail to Chiles Pope Valley Road, including Pritchard Hill
  • State Highway 128 at Lower Chiles Valley Road to Turtle Rock
  • Butts Canyon Road from the Lake County line to James Creek Road in Napa, in addition to Markley Cove Resort to Pleasants Valley Road.

The following roads are closed:

  • State Highway 128
  • Sage Canyon Road
  • Chiles Pope Valley Road
  • Lower Chiles Valley Road
  • State Highway 128 between Wragg Canyon Road and Pleasants Valley Road

The county said additional evacuations were possible.

An evacuation shelter for those directly impacted by the evacuation orders and advisories is at Crosswalk Community Church, 2590 1st St. in Napa.

"Please bring a face covering, practice good hygiene habits and adhere to physical distancing," the Napa County Office of Emergency Services said. "The shelter will be open only to individuals who are impacted by the fire evacuations and an address verification will be in place."

Sheltering for small animals is available at the Napa County Animal Shelter, 942 Hartle Court in Napa.
