Armed Parolee From American Canyon Busted At Traffic Stop

Damian Phillips, 36, tried giving a false name when questioned as a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic infraction, officers said.

A traffic stop by a Solano County sheriff’s deputy led to the arrest of an American Canyon armed parolee in Vallejo early Tuesday morning, a spokesman said.

The deputy stopped a car for a traffic violation in the area of Rollingwood and Lockwood drives around 2 a.m. Tuesday, Solano County sheriff’s spokesman Daryl Snedeker said.

The deputy spoke with the female driver and also spoke with a male passenger, later identified as 36-year-old American Canyon resident Damian Phillips, Snedeker said.

At first, Phillips allegedly gave a false name to the deputy. He was then found to have an outstanding warrant for being a parolee at large from the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, according to Snedeker.

As deputies placed Phillips in custody, they allegedly found a loaded .40-caliber Glock semi-automatic handgun in his pants pocket, the spokesman said.

The gun was not stolen and the sheriff’s office is looking into how Phillips came to possess it, Snedeker said.

Phillips was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in public, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or drug user, possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of possession a firearm and the outstanding warrant, sheriff’s officials said.

He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in Fairfield court on Thursday afternoon.
