Give A Napa County Student A Chance: Nomination Period Extended

If Given A Chance provides mentoring and financial aid to Napa County high school juniors as they prepare for and attend college.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — Counselors, teachers, administrators, adult friends and parents are encouraged to start the new year by nominating a Napa County high school junior for an award from If Given A Chance.

For the past 25 years, the Napa-based nonprofit organization has provided mentoring and financial aid to help hundreds of students through college or vocational school.

To be eligible for an award, a student must have faced adversity and dealt with challenging life circumstances; demonstrate potential and a desire to complete college or vocational school; document financial need; be a junior with a 2.0 or better GPA; be on course to graduate from a Napa County high school in June 2023; and plan to enroll full-time in the fall semester 2023 at a college or vocational certificate program.

“As a person who struggled as a teenager to navigate a path to succeed in life, I understand personally how important it is to receive guidance and financial assistance to make it through college or vocational school and become a productive member of society,” said Allison Haley, president of the board of IGAC and Napa County District Attorney. “If you know of a young person who is facing extraordinary challenges but has the potential to succeed, I encourage you to take the time to submit an application. You can change someone’s life.”

Nominations, and the accompanying student applications, are available on the organization's website and are due by 5 p.m. Feb 15. Students can self-nominate as well. A short video explaining the process can be found here.
