Napa Co. Man Accused of Threatening Walmart Worker With Bat He Allegedly Was Stealing - Along With Cartful of Loot

Suspect Michael Austin Nicely of American Canyon did not seem to live up to his name last night.

An American Canyon man, 36, was arrested Tuesday night for suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon (a baseball bat he was reportedly in the process of stealing) after a confrontation at Walmart, police said.

American Canyon police officers arrested Michael Austin Nicely after he allegedly threatened a store employee with a stolen aluminum baseball bat after the worker tried to stop him from leaving the Main Street store with a cart full of unpaid-for merchandise, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.

Nicely allegedly grabbed the bat from the shopping cart and threatened the employee, police said.

Police said the employee called 911 shortly before 9 p.m. and watched the suspect as he loaded the merchandise in a 2012 Honda Civic and drove off.

Responding officers stopped the car on Eucalyptus Drive and recovered more than $500 dollars in stolen merchandise, including the baseball bat, police said.
