Napa Man Accused Of Assaulting His Mom, Girlfriend

Police said the mother stepped in to stop the attack on the girlfriend. The suspect's 1-year-old was taken by Child Protective Services.

Napa police arrested a man Saturday on suspicion of assaulting his mother and girlfriend at their home on Friday night.

Garrett Lars Elshere, 35, of Napa, allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during an argument about their relationship at their home in the 2900 block of Piedmont Avenue, police said.

Elshere allegedly stuck his girlfriend multiple times in the head, and when his mother intervened and grabbed him by the hair, Elshere knocked his mother to the ground and kicked her, police said.

Elshere refused to let his mother leave, held her to the ground and threatened her and his girlfriend, police said.

The girlfriend ran to a neighbor’s house and called police around 9:40 p.m., but Elshere left before police arrived, police said. Elshere’s mother was treated at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Police responded to the house at 10:15 a.m. Saturday when Elshere returned and took him into custody, police said.

An officer noticed Elshere’s 1-year-old daughter sleeping in a crib near a space heater with cardboard on top of it and articles of clothing nearby.

Elshere was arrested and booked in the Napa County Jail on suspicion of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, child cruelty, domestic violence, false imprisonment and threatening a crime with intent to terrorize.

Child Protective Services took custody of the infant, police said.
