Napa Cricket Club Makes Debut: Photos
An eighth-grader from Silverado Middle School, his Irish dad and several wine industry executives hailing from Australia and the United Kingdom played in Saturday's inaugural public match of the new Napa Valley Cricket Club.
On a warm Calistoga day the Napa Valley Cricket Club held its historic first game at its new home at the Napa County Fairgrounds May 19.
Slated to become an annual event to kick off the season, a World Series game between members of the club has been devised as the format. This year it was the USA & Australia versus The Rest of the World, with the former holding sway in a game that ebbed and flowed but was ultimately won at a canter by the USA & Australia team by 20 runs.
Performances of the day came from Caen Healy, a 14 year old student at Silverado Middle School, and native of Dublin, Ireland who took 2 wickets and had 2 run outs for the Rest of the World team.

He was ably supported by Matt Wood, Estate Director at Chandon, and native of Yorkshire, England who took 3 wickets in his 5 over spell for only 21 runs. It should be noted that Matt hadn’t played cricket for years before Sunday!
Club President Phil Bourke, an Australian, who works at Treasury Estates, says “it was a great day and the best part about it was seeing how many locals came out to watch us running around after a hard red ball in our whites.

"We even managed to attract the attention of the local police for a few minutes while they were making their rounds. It’s important to us that we are part of our community and the added attraction of having the Calistoga Community Pool right next door makes our club a great venue for a family day out.”
Club Vice President Andrew Healy, an Irishman, who runs 3 rock marketing in Napa, says “it was an amazing day. The ground looked fantastic, we had a huge amount of family, friends and interested on lookers come out to support us and all of us who played had a great day.
"The best part about the day was those cricket lovers that we didn’t know about who live locally who came out to support us. We’re looking to build on the success of our opening day game and want to invite locals and local ex-pats alike to come and join us at all of our home games this coming summer season.”
