Silverado Trail Repair Work: City Asks Residents To Limit Driving
The city of St. Helena encouraged residents to reduce vehicle trips until the county completes repairs to storm-damaged Silverado Trail.
ST. HELENA, CA — The city of St. Helena encouraged residents to limit their driving as repairs are made to Silverado Trail.
A section of the roadway was damaged early Monday morning in a storm-related washout. Napa County Public Works is managing the repairs and it is expected that Silverado Trail will be closed for approximately three weeks between Deer Park Road and Meadowood Lane, the city said Thursday in a news release.
"We appreciate everyone’s patience as the County works to stabilize and repair Silverado Trail," St. Helena Mayor Geoff Ellsworth said. "We recognize the loss of this road greatly impacts traffic patterns. Our community’s collective help in reducing unnecessary vehicle trips, carpooling, and adjusting travel to non-peak hours will reduce impacts of this road closure."

The road repair project requires the removal of existing pavement, excavation of loose soil; addition of a new roadway base consisting of large rocks, which will help with drainage; and new soil before the repaving, striping and guardrails can be installed, the city said.
The county installed a temporary stoplight Wednesday at Deer Park Road and state Highway 29, which has helped ease traffic congestion but commuters should continue to expect delays when traveling Highway 29, according to Napa County Public Works.

"The County is working to reopen the impacted section of Silverado Trail as swiftly as possible," Napa County Public Works said.
