3 Men Arrested Following Newark Armed Robbery

A witness gave police a partial license plate on the getaway car, police say.

NEWARK, CA — Three men were arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with an armed robbery of a shoe store at a Newark mall, according to police.

Police said officers responded to the Shoe Palace at 1074 Newpark Mall just after 1:30 p.m. on reports of a man who brandished a handgun and stole three pairs of shoes.

According to police, after the robbery the suspect ran to an awaiting vehicle, which then fled toward Mowry Avenue. A witness was able to provide a partial license plate to responding officers.

Police said officers and detectives from the Major Crimes Task Force were able to locate the vehicle at the intersection of Grimmer Boulevard and Yellowstone Park Drive in Fremont.

Four people were found to be inside the vehicle, and they were all detained without incident. One of the suspects had what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband, but it was later determined to be a replica, police said.

Three of the suspects were arrested and taken into custody, with fourth being released. Police said they also recovered the stolen merchandise.
