Police Say Crooked Real Estate Agent Ran Commercial Real Estate Scheme

A 74-year-old real estate agent has been arrested in Fremont on suspicion of grand theft and elder abuse, police said Monday.

Jeremiah Bishop, of Fremont was arrested April 30 on a Fremont Police Department Warrant.

Police said Bishop advertised himself and his fictitious partner as investors in commercial real estate that wasn’t for sale.
Investigators believe the activity began around 2006, and victims including Bishop’s friends, associates, former customers and co-workers reported a collective loss of around $500,000.

There have been about 20 victims identified, and their losses range from $10,000 to $50,000, police said. One victim reported losing as much as $90,000.

Police said the investigation is still open, and there may be more victims.
