American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) So Cal Chapter Presents Free "Family Law Trial Basics Seminar"

For Family Lawyers with Limited Trial Experience, Friday, April 15, 2016, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm at the Westin South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa

The Southern California Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), the nation’s foremost organization promoting excellence in the practice of family law, continues its educational role and mission of advancing the field of matrimonial law by hosting the admission-free Second Annual “Family Law Trial Basics Seminar” on Friday, April 15, 2016, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm, at The Westin South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA. Designed for family law lawyers with limited trial experience, the seminar features a panel of AAML Fellows/family law experts discussing a wide range of family law trial topics, including opening statements, direct examination, cross examination, presentation of documentary and electronic evidence, special expert witness considerations, closing arguments and avoiding pitfalls. Admission is limited to 100 attorneys. Ideal candidates will have between three and five years of experience in family law. MCLE credit, as well as breakfast and lunch, are provided at no cost to the participants.

Gregory W. Herring, of Herring Law Group in Oxnard, is the seminar’s Dean and is one of the speakers. California family law guru Garrett C. Dailey, of Attorney’s Briefcase and the Law Offices of Garrett C. Dailey in Oakland, is the moderator. Other speakers include Justice Sheila P. Sonenshine (Ret.) (JAMS), who as one of the youngest appointees to the California Superior Court and Court of Appeal heard thousands of cases in the nearly two decades she served on the bench; AAML Southern California Chapter President Emily Edelman of the Law Office of Emily Shappell Edelman in Century City; Saul M. Gelbart of Stegmeier, Gelbart, Schwartz & Benavente, LLP, in Orange County and San Diego; Sandra Mayberry of the Law Office of Sandra L. Mayberry in La Mesa; and Christopher Melcher of Walzer & Melcher LLP, in Woodland Hills. Forensic Accounting expert James T. Schaefer, CPA, of Schaefer & Company in Claremont, also joins the presentation.

Additionally, regional hands-on “break-out” sessions will be held in Los Angeles at Loyola Law School (chaired by Melcher) on Saturday, April 23, 2016; and in San Diego at the San Diego Family Court (chaired by Mayberry) on April 30, 2016.
