The American Heart Association (AHA) recently collaborated with Union Bank to host a Health and Wellness Expo at the bank’s Westminster branch on Saturday, December 5. During the four-hour event, the AHA and Union Bank provided complimentary blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), cholesterol and glucose screenings to nearly one hundred people. Participants also had the opportunity to consult one-on-one with a nurse and received heart health information and giveaways. Union Bank executives also shared information and tips about financial planning, such as budgeting and saving. The Health and Wellness Expo is designed to promote healthy behaviors and achieve the AHA’s 2020 goal of improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent. My Heart. My Life. is sponsored locally by Union Bank. The goal of the Health and Wellness Expo is to bring the “No Wealth Without Your Health” message to local communities by providing heart health education, with an emphasis on its connection to one’s financial fitness. The American Heart Association believes that small efforts toward improving your heart and brain health can lead to big outcomes. The event focused on the AHA’s “Life’s Simple 7,” which recommends seven simple steps to add years to your life – don’t smoke, get active, eat better, maintain a healthy weight, manage blood pressure, control cholesterol and reduce blood sugar. About the American Heart Association The American Heart Association is devoted to saving people from heart disease and stroke – America’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers.
