Campaign Event: Duffy Duffield to Lead Parade of Duffys

To celebrate Duffy Duffield’s 45 years of contributions to the city and his campaign for City Council, boaters and friends are invited to join a Flight of the Duffys on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Anyone who owns a Duffy boat – or can beg, borrow or steal one – is invited to gather at the Newport Harbor Turning Basin at noon for a parade around the Harbor that will last until about 1:30 p.m.

“Forty-five years ago, as a teenager, I invented the Duffy Boat,” Duffy says. ”It has been a great adventure for Terry and I. We’ve sold over 14,000 Duffys around the world, and we are the largest manufacturers of electric boats in the world.

“I owe much of my success to our spectacular Harbor and the Newporters who have supported me. I invite you to bring your Duffy or a friend’s and meet in the turning Basin for a good ol’ fashioned boat parade.”

The parade of Duffy boats from all corners of Newport Harbor will be followed by a post-Flight VIP BBQ at the Duffy Boat Rental facility at 2001 W. Coast Highway, next to the Sea Scout Base. A donation of $250 per person for the Duffy for Newport campaign is requested to attend the barbecue. There is no cost to participate in the boat parade.
