Costa Mesa United Tournament Saved By Los Angeles Chargers

COSTA MESA, CA — If you thought the Orange County All-Star Classic high school football game wasn't going to happen, think again. Thanks to a generous donation from the newly renamed Los Angeles Chargers, organizers announced a recent donation that will save the game.

"When we heard the all-star game was going to be cancelled after a 58- year run, we knew we had to step in and save the game for our community," said Frank Albers, an board member of Costa Mesa United, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of sports fields, facilities and equipment throughout Costa Mesa.

"We weren't sure how many of the ancillary things we would be able to pull off, but thankfully for the kids, the Los Angeles Chargers stepped up and provided the funds to make sure the game continues to be a premier event."

The game will be played June 30 at Orange Coast College and be televised by KDOC-TV Channel 56 and on the Chargers website, Chargers.com. Tickets are currently on sale at Costa Mesa United's website.

The Chargers will conduct their training camp and regular-season practices in Costa Mesa.
