The importance of wetlands, and the ecosystem functions that they provide, have been well-documented over the last 50 years. Despite this, wetlands continue to degrade wetlands nationwide and globally, making restoration an increasingly important tool.
The question of how skilled we are at restoring these systems is still open and crucial to explore. Research conducted by CSU Long Beach Professor Christine Whitcraft demonstrates the potential effectiveness of tidal restoration for wetlands. Her research also provides information about how to evaluate the restoration of ecosystem functions.
