A minor traffic accident preceded the shooting and the suspect followed the other car involved, according to a Costa Mesa Police Department news release.

Walker has a previous conviction for assault with a deadly weapon and car theft, both felonies, with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily harm. He also pleaded guilty in March 2006 of misdemeanor counts of hit and run with property damage. The sentences he served for both crimes are not currently known.
