Newport Beach Residents Honored by Girl Scouts

Outstanding Volunteers and Girls Recognized at Appreciation Luncheon

Newport Beach youth and adults were presented with prestigious awards for their accomplishments and their volunteer service to Girl Scouts of Orange County at a luncheon at the Disneyland Hotel on June 7.

Newport Beach resident Patricia Sowers was presented with a 70 Year Membership Numeral Guard Pins for 70 years of membership with Girl Scouts as a girl and as an adult. Patricia started as a Girl Scout in 1945 when cookies were 25 cents a box and there was just one kind – trefoils. Her favorite Girl Scout memory was being selected in high school to present her council’s Thanks Badge to an influential community volunteer.

Newport Beach resident Shannon Kennedy was presented with the Honor Pin, which recognizes volunteers who have delivered outstanding service throughout Orange County. Shannon was served as a co-chair for the Girl Scouts’ Celebrate Leadership fundraising event. In addition to gaining sponsorships, securing auction items and promoting ticket sales, her efforts helped identify many new Girl Scouts supporters. As Regional President of BNY Mellon Wealth Management, a Girl Scout alumna, and a Girl Scouts Board Member, she is a great role model and a testimony to the impact of the Girl Scout program.

About Girl Scouts

We’re the Girl Scouts of Orange County. We’re 37,000 strong—22,000 girls and 15,000 adults who believe every girl can change the world. Girl Scouts began over 100 years ago with one woman, Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low, who believed in the power of every girl. Today, we continue her vision of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place by helping them discover their inner strength, passions, and talents. And with programs in every zip code in Orange County, there’s a chance for every girl to do something amazing. We’re the Girl Scouts.
