O.C. Wants State Help in Paying for La Habra Quake's $10.5 Mil in Damages

Orange County supervisors declared a local emergency today aimed at freeing up funding to offset an estimated $10.5 million in costs related to earthquake damage caused by the March 28 shaker in La Habra.
Board Chairman Shawn Nelson said the 5.1-magnitude earthquake centered a mile east of La Habra left his neighborhood with "cracked walls" and "foundation issues," along with broken water mains.
County officials said about 150 aftershocks have occurred since the quake.

The county also wants the governor to declare a state of emergency and ask the White House to approve it, freeing up money from the California Disaster Assistance Act funds, State Private Nonprofit Organization Assistance Program funds and the Small Business Administration.
