Pet Whisperer to Sign Katrina Book on Aug 13 in Costa Mesa

Terri Steuben, disaster responder & author of Tails of Triumph: Animals Tell Their Katrina Stories, to share pet emergency preparedness

Terri Steuben, animal communicator and disaster responder with The Humane Society of the United States, will offer emergency preparedness advice to pet owners and sign copies of her new book, Tails of Triumph: Animals Tell Their Katrina Stories, at a “Yappy Hour” reception on Thursday, August 13, at 5-7 p.m. at Dogma Pet Portraits, 1727 Superior Ave, Costa Mesa, CA 92627.

In Tails of Triumph, Steuben shares what she heard from the stranded animals as her rescue team took them to safety from the muddy streets and destroyed homes of New Orleans. She offers a fresh and unique perspective on the historic event – the pets own stories from the pets themselves. The Humane Society sent Steuben to Louisiana in 2005 to help with the largest animal rescue operation in history. Her disaster response training and special ability to telepathically communicate with the animals made her a valuable member of the response team.

Steuben’s book is based on the journal she kept for the two weeks she freed trapped pets, found hidden cats and calmed aggressive dogs. Their survival stories show courage, determination and resourcefulness. Tails of Triumph also gives readers a glimpse of what life what like in the disaster zone for the professional and volunteer responders who came from all parts of the U.S. and Canada to help.
