Transcendental Convergence seeks to confront Mexican identity, trans-nationality, and the desolation of Mexico. Featuring Mexican-born artists, Miguel Ángel Mejía and Omar Pimienta commenting on the key concerns of Contemporary Mexican issues, Transcendental Convergence will consist of a series of photographs and an interactive installation for the public. Mejía and Pimienta explore the fundamentals of the modern state by asking the public to choose between engaging in the destruction or production of an alternative space for identity praxis.

Mejía’s current work addresses contemporary Mexican concerns -- critiquing the political establishment while evoking the anguish of Mexican people with satire and humor. Transcendental Convergence will host the artist’s Los Hijos de la Chingada, a photographic installation consisting of portraits that capture common struggles of the Mexican public.

Pimienta is an interdisciplinary artist who conceptualizes issues of identity, trans-nationality, and emergency poetics. Transcendental Convergence will feature Pimienta’s Free Citizenship and Mobile Consulate, an interactive conceptual art project emulating the bureaucracy of acquiring a passport. The project is divided into three phases: an application, exchange, and acquisition. The overall process concludes with multiple exchanges of expired passports that become part of the Pimienta’s archive of ‘Ciudadanía Libre’.

Transcendental Convergence is curated by Erika Hirugami, founder and CEO of Curatorlove. Hirugami is currently completing her Masters Degree in Art Business with the Sotheby’s Institute of Art at Claremont Graduate University. Transcendental Convergence is Hirugami’s presentation of her Master thesis as well as a partnering with Marcas Contemporary and Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA). Hirugami aims to bridge the gap between museums and galleries, while imploring curatorial projects for a social cause.
