Novato Killer Tracked To Nevada In Murder Case: Police (patch.com) — Novato residents are being updated on a deadly Aug. 4 shooting in southern Novato, where 31-year-old Travis Wine was killed and two 19-year-old Novato men are now in custody. One suspect was arrested in Nevada on suspicion of murder, while another was arrested in Novato as an alleged accessory, and detectives are still seeking tips from the community as the investigation continues.
2. Woman, Dog Killed After Being Struck By Car In Novato: Police (patch.com) — Novato police are investigating a tragic collision on Novato Boulevard where a 59-year-old woman and her dog were fatally struck by an eastbound sedan while crossing the street. The teen driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating, with impairment not initially suspected, as authorities manage the death investigation and urge caution along this busy Novato corridor.
3. Novato Council Confirms Appointment To District 5 Seat (patch.com) — Novato residents in District 5 now officially have Sandeep Karkal as their city council representative after the council appointed him instead of holding a November election with only one qualified candidate. Karkal, a longtime Novato resident and former Novato Sanitary District leader, will continue representing Hamilton and southern Novato while other district races stay on the ballot.
4. Vegetation Fire Burning Along Highway In Novato: FD (patch.com) — Fire crews stopped the forward progress of a roughly 4-acre vegetation fire Sunday night along northbound Highway 101 just north of Novato, near San Antonio Road and a nearby solar farm. Extra engines and a water tender were called in as the blaze, dubbed the Petaluma Fire, burned between Novato and the WM Redwood Landfill while officials investigated the cause.
5. Daily News Briefs: Monday, August 24, 2026 (tollroadsnews.com) — Major state funding is now secured to replace the Novato Creek Bridge on flood‑prone Highway 37, a key route for many local commuters. The $220 million project, plus related environmental work, is part of more than $300 million approved to ease congestion, address sea‑level rise, and upgrade vulnerable stretches of the Novato‑to‑Vallejo corridor over the next several years.
