San Marin's Melissa Hart Chosen for All-State Honor Choir

For the second year in a row, Melissa Hart has been chosen as one of only 12 members of the All-State High School Jazz Choir. A San Marin High School senior, Mel has been singing with a band since her middle school days and has been in San Marin’s jazz choir all four of her high school years. Mel is one of four chosen from Northern California and the only one from Marin County.

The All-State Jazz Choir will perform at a California state
convention of music educators in Fresno on Feb. 17. Members were chosen from hundreds of entries sent on CDs, where each entrant sang scales, a required song, a jazz song of choice and some improvisation. The conductor of the jazz choir will be composer/arranger/conductor Jeremy Fox, who taught for eight years at SWCC in Iowa and is now teaching and working on his doctoral degree at the University of Miami in Florida.

In the fall Mel will be attending the Berklee School of Music in Boston. Mel and Sara Pendleton, a San Marin grad who is currently studying at the Berklee School, recently teamed together for a duet at San Marin’s Intergeneration
Sensation performance.
