With only one more MCAL game to go, Novato High girls volleyball is finishing up the regular season near the top of the pack. They are currently 11-2, tied with Redwood (also 11-2) and right behind powerhouse Branson (13-0). This is the first time in over 15 years that Novato volleyball has had a winning season...and what a season it has been.
Much of the credit goes to coach Mu Yun-Chang, who has turned the Hornets program around in just three seasons. And, much of the credit goes to four graduating senior players, DS Taylor Crowhurst, MH Maddie Tomsky, Libero Rubye Fangmeier, and OH Annalise Dowd. These four athletes have anchored a team on which every player counts, and led the way to a season of victories during which the team has overcome their underdog mentality and dominated legacy schools such as Drake and Marin Catholic.
October 23 was "Senior Night" and Yun-Chang and the rest of the team honored these four seniors with roses and tributes before they played Tam High in a 3-0 win. The girls also took a moment to honor their biggest fans, two aspiring volleyball players who do not have friends or relatives on the team, but have nonetheless attended every single home game, wearing their Hornets t-shirts and cheering on the team.
