The Passing of Satchel Sayre, Age 21

Satchel Kent Sayre, 21, of Novato passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at 6:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at his family home in Sonoma, California. He was born Nov. 26, 1994, in Santa Rosa to Casey Sayre and Charys South Sayre. Satchel grew up in Novato and attended San Ramon Elementary School, Sinaloa Middle School and graduated from San Marin High School in 2013; he was a member of the 2010 S.M.H.S., M.C.A.L. championship baseball and football teams. Satchel was then college bound and attended Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo majoring in Sociology.

Satchel was an avid lover of sports and grew up playing Pop Warner football, Babe Ruth baseball, CYO and Park and Rec basketball, tennis and golf. He loved snow skiing with his family and friends in Heavenly Valley Tahoe from the early age of 3 to most recently over Spring Break. Many of his close friends fish and he developed a love for the sport. Satchel’s close friends would also share his other passions which included listening to rap music, watching music videos on YouTube and playing Xbox late into the night.

Satchel is survived by his parents, Casey Sayre of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Charys South Sayre of Sonoma. Preceding Satchel are his maternal grandparents, W. Stanley and Trish South of Novato; paternal grandparents Chic and Flossie Sayre, of Tucson, Arizona; and his Uncle John Graub, of Indianapolis, Indiana. Surviving Satchel are his paternal grandmother Claire Matthews of Boulder, Colorado; aunts Claire South of Speedway, Indiana, and Leslie Sayre and Cara Creason of Denver, Colorado; uncle Steve Sayre and his wife Tricia of Chicago, Illinois; and cousins Ryan Sayre, Samantha and Michael Sayre, Anna Spitzer, Sarah Grain, and Nick Graub.

His memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday July 16, at The Quest, 1461 S. Novato Blvd. in Novato.
