Las Guitarras is one of Novato's most authentic Mexican Restaurants. The restaurant was founded by the Pantoja family in San Francisco in 1973. Las Guitarras became so popular that soon another San Francisco location opened, followed by a location in San Rafael, and in 1978, the location that remains in Novato on Reichert Avenue.

Today, Las Guitarras is managed by daughter, Lisa Garcia and her brother, David Pantoja. A family operation, Lisa's sons, Alex and Josh, work as servers on some shifts, as do other family members. The family Matriarch, Elena Pantoja, a Spirit of Marin Award winner in 2006, is at work on many days, welcoming customers into the patio as they arrive.

Las Guitarras has long been a family destination on holidays like Easter, Cinco de Mayo, and Halloween, when the place is done up to fit the occasion. And the restaurant is host to business meetings, rehearsal dinners, family occasions -- and more. The lastest addition to the restaurants offerings is Stand Up Comedy Night, once a month on a Thursday, including this Thursday, August 16.
