Brush Fire Fully Contained In West Marin: UPDATE
BREAKING: The blaze, now fully contained, broke out Wednesday west of Petaluma. Smoke was visible from Novato and parts of San Rafael.
MARIN COUNTY, CA – Crews have fully contained a brush fire west of Petaluma, fire officials announced Wednesday night.
The blaze broke out around 4:15 p.m. near Point Reyes-Petaluma Road and Novato Boulevard, according to the Marin County Fire Department. The fire, called the Spaletta Fire, had burned 25 acres by 6 p.m., although officials had previously reported the fire at 35 acres. It was fully contained shortly before 9 p.m.
Crews attacked the flames from the ground and air, fire officials said. Cal Fire assisted with the response. Officials said 90 firefighters battled the blaze, which burned mostly grass and low-lying brush.

Smoke was visible from Novato and parts of San Rafael. Officials asked drivers to avoid the area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
