The Novato Police Department is bidding farewell Captain Dave Jeffries, who has spent 31 years working in law enforcement, including 21 years in Novato.
Officers, city officials and others thanked Jeffries for his contributions to Novato and sent him off with two rounds of standing ovation at Tuesday's council meeting.
Most recently, Jeffries ran the Novato PD's Operations Division, which includes the Patrol Bureau, Investigations Section and the Traffic Section. He has also served as a DARE officer, detective and many other positions in the department.
Also on Tuesday, the city was introduced to five new police officers and an interim captain who will be taking over once Jeffries retires. The officers are Nicole Baggett, Thomas Lyons, Taylor Barnes, a Novato native, Matthew Waite-McGough and Robert Taylor Cantley.
The new interim captain is Tony Gillotte, who worked in Novato from 1971 to 2001 and later became an investigator for the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office.
