CCNB Corpsmembers Protect Communities from Floods

Conservation Corps North Bay Crews Work Through the Night

Conservation Corps North Bay (CCNB) crews were deployed overnight to respond to areas of flooding throughout Marin County. Local creeks flow very fast during winter storms, carrying tree branches, leaf litter, and trash onto the banks of the creek. During significant storms like those Marin is experiencing this week, accumulated material hits culverts, trash grates, or downed trees, impeding the flow of water, which can cause flooding in the surrounding area. Working closely with the Marin County Flood Control & Water Conservation District and Marin County Parks & Open Space, CCNB’s expertly trained teams undertook the difficult task of removing this material without endangering themselves or the public in the process.

Nate Duran, CCNB Crew Supervisor said, “This is physically demanding work, but it’s a great experience for our corpsmembers. It means a lot to know that what you’re doing is helping to keep people in your community safe. We had a number of residents come out of their houses to thank us for our work, and that helped to keep everyone energized throughout the night.”
