UPDATE 9:30 A.M.: One Novato High School student is hospitalized and another dead following last night's shooting in town, police confirmed this morning.
At a morning news conference outside the school, Marin County Sheriff's Lt. Doug Pittman said that two male students were involved in the double shooting, which was first reported around 5:30 p.m. at the end of Fairway Drive.
One male student died at the scene, and the other— who was stabbed and shot— was taken to an area hospital, where he remains as of Thursday morning, according to Pittman.
The lieutenant would not yet disclose any additional information on the victims' ages or names, as the investigation continues.
"The message that I'm trying to deliver is there is no further threat to the community at this time," he said.
Pittman stressed that the investigation is very active at this time, and would not say if the suspects, described as three Hispanic males, are in custody.
"Information we have in regards to who the possible suspects are is not information I can share at this time," he said.
The sheriff's office had earlier said on Twitter that they planned to comb the area where the boy who died was found, in an effort to find any evidence in the case.
