Downtown Novato's 'Safe Trick-or-Treat' Canceled For 2020

"Keeping out little ghosts and goblins safe and our community healthy is our greatest consideration."

NOVATO, CA — Downtown Novato's "Safe Trick-or-Treat," an annual Halloween tradition, will not be held this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to organizers.

The Novato Downtown Business Association recently made its announcement, noting the decision to scrap the event was not an easy one.

"We are sad to announce the cancellation of Safe Trick-or-Treat 2020," the organization said. "Keeping out little ghosts and goblins safe and our community healthy is our greatest consideration.

"Please know we spent a great deal of time talking to parents and community members looking for an alternative to the event," officials added. "It simply became apparent there was no way to keep our families and businesses safe. Thank you for your understanding."

The event typically was held on a Saturday in October as costumed youngsters trick-or-treated at local merchants. No specific date was posted for 2020.
