State Route 37 Closure: Highway Reopens After Fire Breaks Out Near Novato

TRAFFIC ALERT: State Route 37 is now open in both directions from Novato to Vallejo, according to the California Highway Patrol.

NOVATO, CA – State Route 37 has reopened after a fire near Novato prompted a full closure of the state highway Monday morning.

The fire has been fully contained, officials said. Firefighters are on scene mopping up the area.

A grass fire prompted the closure of part of State Route 37 when the blaze broke out early Monday morning on the state highway at Highway 121, according to Novato Fire Protection District. The flames quickly burned between 80 to 100 acres. No structures were ever threatened, officials said.

Novato Fire Protection District officials announced shortly after 3 a.m. on Twitter that State Route 37 was closed between Highway 121 and Lakeville Highway. The closure was later extended between Highway 101 in Novato and Mare Island in Vallejo.
