Giving to the Caregiver

Gifts can sometimes say more than words can.

Why Give?

Magazine subscriptions. From National Geographic to Outdoor Living, these monthly publications offer short articles about a range of topics. This allows the caregiver who may have only 15 minutes to sit down and enjoy reading something of interest.

Monthly fruit and/or cheese club deliveries. These packages bring healthy food right to your caregiver’s table. And if he or she doesn’t have time to shop, this could really help fill the pantry, too. In some cases, you can also order food delivery of up to three meals a week that take only about 20 minutes to prepare. Explore options, such as BlueApron.com.

If you are looking to satisfy a caregiver’s sweet tooth, then check out cookie clubs, as well. These online options are fun to receive.

Cup of Java. What about a gift card to a favorite coffee shop? A special latte or cup of herbed tea served up with a fresh scone - already paid for - can be the perfect mini-getaway.

Scented Air. Sometime a scented candle can change the environment. Today’s candle choices include essences, such as lavender, pine, or lemon, can spice up one’s mood. The right scent can also add to the relaxing ambience of a room. Just make sure to avoid scents that the caregiver might be sensitive to.

Don’t forget that the most rewarding part of any gift you give will let the caregiver know that his or her efforts are 1) recognized, and 2) appreciated. We all know what it feels like to acknowledge another. So start making a list now. Gifts can be given at any time of the year.
