Woman Killed In Hit-And-Run; Driver Arrested: Novato Police

A driver accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene was arrested Monday, Novato police said.

NOVATO, CA — A driver accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene was arrested Monday, Novato police said.

The deadly crash happened around 5 a.m. on Redwood Boulevard at Rush Creek Place in Novato. The first officer at the scene found an unresponsive woman in the roadway but did not find a vehicle, police said.

The woman was taken to Marin General Hospital, where she later died. Her identity was unknown.

While officers were still investigating the fatal crash, Mario Trigueros-Santos, 48, returned to the scene and told officers he had struck the pedestrian, according to police.

Trigueros-Santos was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and booked into Marin County Jail.

The roadway was closed for several hours.
