Last call for Soroptimist International of Novato’s Annual meeting on October 5th. We have a very special and inspiring guest speaker, Laura Holmes Haddad, a cancer survivor and author of This is Cancer: Everything You Need to Know from the Waiting Room.
Laura is a writer from the San Francisco Bay Area. A graduate of Smith College and the California Culinary Academy, Laura spent four years as an assistant cookbook editor at Simon & Schuster in New York City. Her freelance career focused on wine and food and she has co-authored numerous cookbooks and lifestyle titles.
A mother with two young children and wife to successful local business leader, Laura was diagnosed with Stage IV inflammatory breast cancer in 2012 at the age of 37. Currently in remission and while transitioning from patient to survivor, Laura has started work as a patient advocate and speaker. After her cancer battle, Laura set out to share all the details she learned along the way -- she knew these details would help other patients, their families, and caregivers. Laura represented the patient perspective at the “Moonshot Roundtable” in March at UCSF, where she spoke to Vice President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden about her successful treatment. Laura was also a patient speaker at the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life” and “Discovery Gala" events in San Francisco.
