Marin General Hospital Launches Fall Prevention Program

Falls are the leading cause of injury and death in older Americans, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Marin General Hospital is offering a new program to help residents prevent falls.

Falls are the leading cause of injury and death in older Americans, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In fact, an older adult falls every second of every day in the U.S.

Falls can happen anytime and anywhere to people of any age. However, as people age, the number of falls and the severity of injury resulting from falls increases.

In an effort to help residents prevent falls, Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae has launched a new community program called "A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls."

"We can be active participants in fall prevention by addressing risk factors that may cause a fall," said Beverly Winsor, the program's coordinator. "This course will help cover all aspects of fall prevention and offer simple strategies to help seniors prevent falling and improve their balance."

The program includes eight, two-hour group sessions.
